BBC reports that Scientists plan to test radical ways to fix Earth’s climate

Will unthinkable break through technologies be the key to solve the climate problem?

There is concern among Cambridge Scientists that current technology approaches to repair Earth’s climate will not stop dangerous and irreversible damage to the planet.

Scientists plan a new research center as part of part of Cambridge university’s Carbon Neutral Futures Initiative with the mission to solve the climate problem.

As next 10 years may significantly determine the direction of all future climate developments the new Centre for Climate Repair shall ‘think the unthinkable’ and will deal even with with ideas which may have huge (down?) side potentials, like Refreezing the poles, Ocean spraying or Recycling of CO2.

The fact that top scientists are investigating extreme innovation approaches to slow down global warming shows that there is not much time left to act and that there is good reason to try the impossible.

What really matters?

Many of us are nice, modern people – but quite busy with ourselves. We are busy with our life, our family, our job and how to earn enough to have a better life, we are busy to master challenges, to stay ahead, to be healthy, and to plan next holidays.

We know that others are struggling more than we do – but we cannot solve the problems of others or the world, we have our own problems, limited personal resources, and what can we really change?

We know that there are some ‘burning’ problems in our world, not only wild fires but also poverty, migration, war, environmental issues, an increasing number of diseases and disasters, and there is this so-called climate change which is connected with many of the issues. But all is complex, not really clear what we can contribute or change as an individual. Experts are talking confusing, same as politicians who deny or belief while acting slow – and, as long as the big issues of the world mostly hit others… others should resolve them! What matters if we don’t matter, if we handle our life only?

Lets assume that we are more than nice, we are self-reflecting people who may feel a bit guilty by doing so and by ignoring increasingly concerning issues around us. In a silent moment, eventually, we may consider to move from purely egocentric way of life to a certain higher level of involvement

  • We may talk about the ‘burning’ issues, so it seems we are educated and interested but in reality we do not take action or change anything
  • A more active route may be searching for true and independent information, to put efforts on place to understand relevance and potential impact of issues on us and our future.
  • Highest level of involvement is to get active in the one or other way,  to build up a position on essentials, to become a communicator and a caretaker, a contributor to change and improvement within our possibilities

Its evident, that the simplest way of life is the first option – to stay selfish… even today the more common way is to show off, to talk and to talk instead of acting. Those who choose a higher level of  engagement will try to gather independent information and combine it via common sense. Certainly this is a difficult step but it will deliver eye openers which are gateways to move from a selfish to a caring position – a move out from the lonely edge into care-taking for others and our planet.

During years of personal action for environment in Industry I decided for the latter one, the ‘option of personal engagement’ with the strong belief  that we can make a positive difference in our world. This blog site and also a weekly e-news collection called “The Sustainability Mirror” (at its4climate.com) are practical consequences.

We have to support people and organisations via proper information in their understanding, their decisions and in their move towards what really matters – a save and better world for all humans!
